BMSL 1938-39 season

Posted on Nov. 18, 2021, 1:41 p.m. |  Categories:  Baltimore BMSL

In the offseason, the U.S.F.A. approved a request by the Maryland State Soccer Association to widen its scope to include the D.C. territory. As such, the body was renamed the Maryland State and District of Columbia Soccer Association. Another big offseason move was the German Sports Club's acquisition of a franchise in the American Soccer League. The team was named the Baltimore Germans and was practically the same team that had played in the Southeastern and Baltimore Major leagues. The Maryland-Germans team continued in the BMSL carrying on the German Sports Club name. Colonial S.C. also left the league in the offseason but Corinthian S.C. joined and the league played with six clubs for the 1938-39 season. St. Gerard again won the league and made another deep run in the National Amateur Cup losing in the Eastern Semifinal 4-2 to Hosiery Local at Cambria Field in Philadelphia. But Gerard could not win another Rowland Cup losing 5-4 in the final to the Associated Sixth District Democratic Club, a squad playing in the Greater Baltimore Soccer League.
